Suzannah Espie is one of Australia’s most respected and distinctive singer-songwriters. Over a career spanning more than three decades, she has carved out a unique place in the country’s alt-country, folk and roots landscape, captivating audiences with her smoky, expressive voice, razor-sharp songwriting, and deeply engaging live performances.
From her early days as a founding member of the acclaimed all-female trio GIT through to an extensive solo career, Espie has consistently created music of honesty, depth and emotional power. Her songs explore love, loss, resilience, motherhood, ageing and survival with a rare combination of vulnerability, wit and hard-won wisdom.
A recipient of numerous accolades including MBAS Blues Performer of the Year, Port Fairy Folk Festival Artist of the Year, and the Victorian Music Award nomination for Best Folk Album, Espie has toured throughout Australia and the United States and shared stages with artists including Archie Roach, Renee Geyer, Kasey Chambers and Arlo Guthrie. In recent years she has also been a key member of both The Cartridge Family and The Junes, contributing to more than twenty album releases.
